Challenge: Square Crop (Advanced Editing IV)

My friend\'s cat Merlin. I almost called it Merlin, but I figured not everyone would be thrilled with the title.

I wasn\'t going to enter anything, but I was going through my pictures from this week and thought this would work well as a square crop. I predict something right around my average, which is fine. I just want to do stuff at or above my average from now one.

I\'m a bit dissapointed that I couldn\'t get rid of the noise around his mouth and at the bottom of the picture, but it was low light and high ISO, so oh well!

I\'m sure I\'ll get panned for taking a picture of a pet (even though it\'s not mine) but that\'s ok. I had fun taking pictures of him :)

The eyes look a little underexposed, a touch of neat image should take care of the noise in the bottom part of the frame. Great focus though.

IMO, the lighting is not even enough on the two eyes to make this concept work to its fullest, otherwise nice capture

very nice composition and subject, a little more light for the left eye would make this even more pleasing IMO

Very nice, would've been better without the shadow over the one eye!

Nice capture - could do with some noise reduction, especially in the bottom half.

Lovely, first cat picture that I am even inclined to like ... the lighting here seems a little off with the left eye itself in the dark - would have preferred something a little more even on both eyes :).

The sharpness needs to be more on the eyes. The framing is very strong.

her/his right eye is a bit dark

Pretty kitty. The shadow on the eyes and noise detract from the image.

a little light reflected in the left eye would have been nice

This is one shot where the "no ears" thing works.

Some lightening around that left eye might have been useful for balance - a square crop lends itself to symmetrical composition. On the same lines, making the eyes level in frame would have made this a more comfortable view - one's first impression is that something isn't quite right about it, and I fear first impressions are pretty important at dpc. Good stuff otherwise, of course, but those minor points might prove more important than one would like.
