I'm kinda bummed this got DQ'd....as it finished in 4th place and I coulda completly avoided getting DQ'd if I just woulda used USM instead of making a new layer and sharpening.

Oh well....it happens:P

A lot of people are asking how this was done so;

To make this photo I simply cut off about an inch and a half of an incense stick (It was Jamaican Coconut) and lit it and placed it inside the flower. I hung a black blanket up about 5 feet behind the flower and placed a white piece of foamcore on the left hand side and simply bounced my flash of the foamcore to light the flower. I also had a fill light on the right hand side so it wasn't totally in shadow.

So there you go....:P

Sorry about the DQ man. It's alright though, at it seems you are now scoring above 6 pretty consistently. Don't sweat it.

Celeb, after seeing the reason you were DQ'd, I stopped to think about this a while.

The same effect you achieved with the second sharpened layer could have been achieved with the Fade command in the Edit menu.

Right after you apply the USM, go to edit and select Fade USM and then adjust transparency of the USM. Hope that helps.

Is the flower the essence of life or the vapor? I ilke the combination. The black brings simplicity.
