Inspired by:
Charles Dickens - The Old Curiosity Shop

The night crept on apace, the moon went down, the stars grew pale and dim, and morning, cold as they, slowly approached. Then, from behind a distant hill, the noble sun rose up, driving the mists in phantom shapes before it, and clearing the earth of their ghostly forms till darkness came again.

-------------

Taking the picture was easy, I just pushed the button. Finding an appropriate title was the real challenge.

I left the house a little after 6:00 AM. I was headed up the canyon to hopefully shoot a sunrise above the clouds. I stopped along the way to capture this scene just because it was purdy.

When I arrived at my destination, I hiked several miles to the top of a peak not too far from home. It started out a crisp clear day with patches of fog in the low-lying valleys. Within 20 min the clouds were over me and it began to snow. It never snows here. By the time I hiked back to the car, I looked like a drowned rat. The sun never showed up and it rained all day.

When I got home, I made a fire, poured a cup and spent the rest of the morning with Charles Dickens.

Since there's little color in the foreground, you may want to try this as a blue duotone.

Nice moody shot in the top half and fits the title well, the foreground lets the overall image down a little imho.

More burning may have added further texture and depth to this strong composition.
