Clever idea. While it's probably more true to life, I think this would have been better if the focal field had centered on the hypo and not on the lighting equipment and ceiling above. I understand that it's a fear of the dental experience being portrayed, but I think that could have been heighten by focusing on the sharp needle. |

Would be more fearful if coming at viewer, with drop on the end. |

This is almost too graphic! Your composition, with the patient view, really DOES provoke fear! Auggh! |

good idea. if needle was in focus would have had more effect. |

lol, couldnt focus on the needle eh? of course that could be the effect you were going for... 6 |

would have wanted the needle sharp!! |

I like the idea but I dont think it is executed very well. I think your depth of field needs to be just the opposite of the way you have it with the needle sharp and the background blurry. The composition needs some work too.

I hate needles. It seems the focus is on the equipment above the mirror though. |

good theme, focus, lighting. I know where you're coming from. |

The idea is great, I think its a very creative way of finding everyday fears, but i got a little lost in the composition, perhaps if you changed the focus to the needle. |

To be more effective, I think the needle should be in better focus, or at least the syringe part. |

I really like the "looking-straight up"-view. I would have liked the needle to be more in focus though because that's the main fearing object. |

Cool idea. Focusing on the needle lets it down a bit. |

Wish the needle had been focused, and the rest blurred. That would have been awesome. Good idea. May need to be cropped just a touch on the right. |

Nicely done. In the top grouping. A 10 if the needle is in better focus, but still a 9. |

For dentists the cliche command is "open wide" -- saying ahh would probably put the tongue in the path of that needle. But whatever you call it, it scares a lot of people... |

I like this idea, and I commend you for being the ONLY one to portray the dentist as a phobia. I would have liked it better if the syringe had been the focal point and not what's above it. |

Should have had the dentist in the shot, with dollar signs in his eyes. Now thats scarey. "7" Dogman ;] |

shouldn't the focus be on the syringe instead?? |

i personally think you should have focused on the needle thing. thats what i would be looking at if i was sitting in the chair |

Not my fear, but I know people who are. A great idea. |

This for some reason shows me fear. It just looks scary. I think it would be much better with the needle in focus. |

This almost works, but the subject, the needle, is out of focus while the background stuff is in focus. My attention was first brought to the light, then the tray, then the arm holding the tray, and lastly to the needle. We need for things to work the other way around. If your camera has a macro mode, this is a good way to get in an in focus subject while getting a lot of background blur to remove destractions. |

I think this is a VERY fearful situation for me :) I think this photo would have been GREAT if the needle was not out of focus. In my mind, the needle *is* the element of fear in this image and should be the center of attention... good shot! = 7 - jmsetzler |

I thought about doing a dentist shot! To me, the focus should be on the needle. It's the scarest part!! (I was thinking about just doing the dentist's tray, this is a better concept, if only the needle stood out more....) 6 Swash |

I think this is the dentist and that is fearful yet I can't really tell what it is. |

I think this would be more effective if the focus was on the syringe, but I think I see where you're going. The blob in the lower right is distracting. It could have easily been cropped out. I think the composition could be better too, maybe if there was a person in the shot with their mouth open. |

I THINK THE NEEDLE IS IN THE FRONT OF THE PIC BUT ITS OUT OF FOCUS. YOU PROBABLY WERE TRYING FOR THAT EFFECT BUT ID LIKE TO SEE MORE CLEARITY OVERALL |

the needle needs to be in focus. This is quite messy, and not well lit. |

I woulda focused on the needle since that's what really scares people. |
