Challenge: Water II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: Guest bathroom
Date: Mar 25, 2006
Aperture: f/11.0
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/10s
Galleries: Water
Date Uploaded: Mar 26, 2006

Copied a previous winner, in a lot of ways. Tip of the hat to the "How'd They Do That" by Remie on "Impact of a Waterdrop", a yellow ribbon winner in 2002.

There should be at least 10 shots of this nature...

This took enough work to get the shot in itself, but it was pretty much a plane jane shot until PS got involved... I suspect those who saw the "original" (I know, I missed Deja Vu) will think this is not as good, and newer voters just won't like it, but I think it's decent, and it's dynamic. Maybe that will help.

Accidentally shot at 400ISO :(

Editing Steps...

-Crop
-Convert to BW with PhotoPlugins A/W Converter filter for PSE, including a "toning setting" for a dark sepia
-Levels
-Gradient Fill to darken the upper right hand corner
-Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, with major hue adjustment to Blue from Sepia, with significant Saturation boost as well.
-Unsharp mask for contrast
-Imagenomic noise reduction, save as JPG
-Resize and save for web

The highlights on the water are the focal point of the image since they are the brightest parts. I like the circular ripples. The actual drops are almost pointless since they do not stand out in the image at all. On second thoughts if you crop just below the falling drop, eliminating it and the diagonal line the composition changes completely and the focus is put back on the splash.

nice composition and stop motion. only critisism is slight lack of sharpness / noise.
