Shot at the 15th Scantic Spring Splash in Enfield, CT.
Unfortunately, I realized the deadline after I left home for work, and so I plucked this shot off my website - two generations removed from the original and tweaked in Gimp, not Photoshop, on my Linux desktop at the office.
This was cropped from the original, and I would have been gentler with the crop had I known.
It was heavily overcast with little light. In order to get a quick shutter with my slow 70-300mm lens, I pumped the Rebel to ISO 1600, adding lots of noise. In the real world, that seemed the best tradeoff.
I shot off a tripod, unusual for me. Even at these fast shutter speeds, I believe the tripod helped. In fact, it was much less an impediment to quick reaction than I would have thought.
I believe the guy in the blue thought he had safely made it through a short patch of white water. Wrong! |
