This is a brutally honest, undoctored image of the garden in our backyard. Annually this ivy loves to take over the cannas and everything else it can wrap itself around, so it really does look this chaotic, but in a nice way of sorts.

(Oh, and if some wonder about the focus, I had a diffusing filter on my lens. I find that this softening lends an interesting touch to photos lke this that could be incredibly overbearing if viewed in full acuity.)

Oh, and do spell "aperture" correctly if you're going to give me exposure advice.

Perhaps something like this would have worked out better. Oh well. I just want to express that I'm not an awful photographer.

This happened to be one of many pictures I just had around that I thought would fit the theme, but I guess my effect wasn't clear in my explanation. A soft focus filter was on the lens of my camera -- i.e., people saying it's "blurry" are in fact right --- it's meant to be. If it weren't, the picture would be worthless (which it pretty much is already; I know.).

Hey, but at least I got your attention. Better things are to come. Guess I should have put in a "leaf" or "insect" shot; being somewhat creative with trash shot got me nowhere. :-)

Seems a bit blurry and bright.

too blury, hard to see what's the main subject of the shot

Your picture looks quite overexposed with a lot of real bright areas. A smaller aperature or shorter exposure would increase the detail and color quality. I am having a hard time seeing the ivy as the main subject as your title suggests. 5

this look a bit of a mess to be honest. its out of focus, and theres nothing really there to look at

focus is poor.. what are you trying to show us?

The exposure for the most part is ok. There are just a few hot spots. Composition is a bit cluttered though the large leaf that is in focus is on one of the third points (approx). I think the trick here would be to play with different vantage points and exposure settings to try and emphasize the ivy that you've indicated by your title as the main subject.

This photo lacks interest, a focal point and focus. I don't see what you saw.

ohh, the photo is not sharp, needs more focus...
