Great shot Indigo. Probably the best macro shot I've seen in a while. Great composition. Sorry to hear about your Green Ribbon. I feel your pain.
Go team G2! |

We've found several snakes under wood in the yard recently. This was the smallest I'd ever seen though. I kept it in a little glass aquarium for a day so that the kids could see it.
I had a really hard time coming up with a way to shoot him. I have some shots of the kids holding him, and he looks tiny even in their hands. It's amazing how fast he is ... I had to drape a laundry basket in black fabric and place it under him. I don't need a baby snake loose in the bedroom!
I have other shots with better composition, but this was the only one where I caught his tongue out. He came out to the edge of the front flower and was reaching toward my camera as if he wanted to say hello.
Macro lens +4, bounced flash, f 2.5, 1/160, ISO 200 (thus the noise in the background), levels adjusted slightly |

first off, I hate snakes....but anyway, yours suffers from the same thing my entry does...it seems the middle part of the body is in focus but the head is slightly out of focus |

It certainly is. Good catch. Could be a little lighter and a little sharper. I'd crop off the flower/leaf above the snake. |

I think there is to much background. I wish you had cropped it so only the snake and some of the flower would be showing. Background a little distracting. 4 |

Beautiful shot... the lighting and composition here are excellent... the fork in the tonge being captured here really seals up this photo as a strong one :) I gave this photo a 10 based on the quality of the shot and the overall impact. I did not subtract any points for, what seems to me to be, a careless title. I'm sorta funny about that. Anything that you present WITH your photo becomes part of your overall presentation, including title, border/framing. I take particular interest in titling my own photos. To me, that is a major part of the presentation :)
Great shot... |

Oh my gosh, that is the smallest snake I have ever seen. Excellent shot. I'm amazed at the little forked tongue and the position of the little guy. I don't care for snakes but this really is a 10 in my book. |

Awesome! Is that a brown snake or a ringneck snake? It's kind of hard to tell. Was that shot posed or did you find him that way? Posed I'm guesing.
Great either way. I love photos with snakes as the subject. |
