Overall, a lovely emotive image that in my opinion makes excellent use of available lighting conditions. I like the way that we are drawn into this image by the shining rails, which take the picture up through the centre of the dark area to the main subject. The darkness is enhanced by highlights outlining not just the subject, but some little plants, and rail ties, which give the picture overall depth. The sky is dramatic, and may have been made more so by some very subtle burning. The figure of the main subject is really quite well done, almost haunting, and like some of your other photographs, really hints at a deeper story behind the picture. I really like this.
I find the elements above the main horizon line too distracting. This picture might be outstanding if the street lamp were cloned out, because it seems to be pointing at the subject's head instead of, for example, framing it. Having said that, it has a nice echoing feel to it, since it's quite in line with the left side of the subject's form. I would also not have given this image such a heavy three-dimensional border. Something subtler (though still strong) may work well. Overall, a great picture, thanks for showing it. |
