In response to your request for comment: This is a good photograph with a lot of interest. For me, the subject is compelling, and I'm interested in knowing more about this guy, the kind of music he's playing, where he is, why he's there, and if he has a little paper cup nearby or not. Great expression captured as well. It's a great capture at the right orientation, with much vibrant colour.
Compositionally, though the angle is good, maybe it's not as dramatic as someone like me would prefer, although it does indeed work well in my opinion. Maybe I'd like to see more of his face, and really see this guy playing his sax up close. So I think the background's quite busy, especially the gentelmen to the left of his head with the very distracting checkered shirt that keeps drawing my attention, and the bright white (possibly blown) polygon to the right of his head. Perhaps desaturating that area might work, or burning it ever so slightly, though it could be argued that this is a busy street scene with a lot of action, and there just happens to be this great sax player there. In that case, more of the background would have been great, with a wider angle, to get a feel of the surrounding.
As usual, I am personally a little distracted by what I consider to be an overly soft image. I really like clarity; so much could have been done if this were really very sharp (and coupling that with concentrating on his face would have made this an outstanding photo, especially if you chose b/w and burned out the background slightly).
But I do think this is a great capture, and I really enjoy it, for the story that it hints at. I hope this helps! |
