I think there is potential, but the sky is uninteresting, and the texture is not clearly emphasized. Next time try getting closer, much much closer. Try getting only part of the rock. Try putting the rock in different parts of the frame. Maybe try getting a closer shot comparing the stone texture with the ground texture. Good luck!

Overall the picture is rather "flat" - ie lacking in contrast/color. I don't care for the stone being centered, but that's a personal preference.

the exposure is very well controlled here, but a little more "bumping" of the curves in photoshop may make this photo even better, in my opinion.

Too flat (the light, not the landscape).

Wow, so much to go over. First off, go over to www.photoinf.com and look up this article: //www.photoinf.com/General/Johannes_Vloothuis/landscape_composition_rules.html

Pay special attention to #21 and #22 for this picture. Yes, it is a painting article, but the pricinples translate.

Read the rest of the stuff on the site, it's all great, and some of it crosses over and repeats, but it will all help you with your photography.

this shot has sooo much potential. a gradient mask and levels would do wonders on the sky which has no depth to it as is. it is just overall very flat. excellent composition and subject

This has potential. I think I'd burn the heck out of the sand and clouds and then do a levels or curves adjustment to really give it some color depth. I'd crop so that the stone wasn't dead center.
