My friend riding down into a dry irrigation ditch. We're working on making it a halfpipe type of thing so we can air out of the other side. The lighting gives some texture to the dirt, hence the title. Used my new flash, held off to the side to cast a longer shadow and make the lighting look nicer.

Processing: increased contrast, hue/saturation, sharpened, some touching up of the colors with layer masks, curves, levels, etc.

***Greetigs from the Critique club***

Lets seee...

I would have to say, the flash doesnt help you, shooting at night is for long shutters, the image would be great if it was day time,

so improvements
shoot in the day
try and get in closer to make the action better
the shadow covers up his leg whitch takes from thephoto.
this is a bit harsh of a critique, remember only ask for a critiqu if you really feel you need one, there isnt much ot critique on this image since its nigt

Should be wearing a helmet... :-) Not sure the focus here is on the texture.

This could have been an interesting shot. But lighting wasn't your friend. The lighting is pretty harsh. It is from a direction that created minimal shadows, and hence the true texture wasn't revealed very much. IMHO, this would have been a better photo in natural light near sunrise or sunset when the light is low in the sky. That would bring out the texture. I am also curious about the background, black in the photo. What would have been revealed with higher ambient light?

Sorry can't see the whole image on my screen to get a good evaluation. Maybe shoot a landscape so its easier to view
