 Some of daughter's old pointe shoes arranged on a velvet jacket and using available light from a nearby window. I took about 100 shots in various configurations. It was hard to choose. I actually submitted and unsubmitted a b&w version. I cropped a bit and adjusted the color balance. Exposure compensation of -1.7.

Well, I won't say I'm not disappointed this didn't place much higher as I worked very hard and it was difficult to choose the best shot from the multitude that I took. I am disappointed but not overly so. My scores have been staying consistantly up there these days. I'm finally seeing new things bump out my older highest scores. I am very pleased that a few people thought this was Angela's work as I admire her portoflio. I know it was the content that made folks think of Angela but I hope the quality was partly the reason. :D

Don, I supsected as I was shooting and editing that this might be beat out by the rough textured shots and I had a few shots that included the more worn, ripped up shoes (and, as Angela knows, the toe-boxes can get pretty ugly) but I kept hearing imaginary voters saying, "That grungy, torn bit ruins this for me". I am going to post some of the outtakes soon because there were a few I was really pleased with.

Whoah! And I just noticed there are no 1 or 2 votes. I'm not sure but that may just be a first for me! YAHOO!

Nice shot. I think it would have scored higher except that DPCers seem to prefer rough to smooth. :)

you've used light so well here -- the pink tones are still true but the low key setting creates the somber mood. one of my ribbon picks

I like this composition. I can see you wanted the image to be dark, but I think a little more contrast would do better.
