Psalm 150:5 "Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: Praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals."
Jutilda, receive my most humble apologies. This was simply a matter of "running-out-of-time," not some secret message to all the Bible Scholars.
As with other entries, I got this one in just "under-the-wire." Since I couldn't seem to settle on an idea, I grabbed my camera while I was at church that Tuesday evening for a meeting. I asked the musicians if I could take for photos while they practiced & they were agree-able with the idea.
That was about 9:00 P.M. (Eastern) I got home as quickly as possible in order to process the photo & enter it before midnight.
I wonder how many times I have been the last photo to get into a contest. Hmmmm! Interesting. :) SCH |

::: Critique Club :::
Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.
First Impression - the most important one:
Ok the title don't do it for me .. the picture has issues .. but this is a candid and meets the challenge.
A few things tend to slammed a bit here, titles that don't work for a picture and are required to understand the story. A picture should in general be able to stand on its own with a title to enhance it ... this title may have confused people.
Composition:
ok this is interesting ...
The two metal things in the front are really badly distracting ... using them instead to assist in cropping the image .. e.g. to the corners of the picture may have assisted.
when taking a shot think about the following:
Composition is about leading the eye into an image (painting or photo). Research shows that the eye enters bottom left and travels up to top right ("Leading Lines Rule"). Once in there, the same research tells us that the eye finds comfort when the point of interest (POI) sits on a thirds line or intersection ("the Rule of Thirds").
When cropping take this into account again .. as it will help.
Subject:
Meets the challenge.
Technical (Colour and light):
This is where you have problems ... drummers move hence motion blur which is fine .. but a higher shutter speed may have stopped the motion better ... its a candid so you are limited in what you can do really.
The colour is a little off ... not sure how to fix ... but trying and playing with it may help.
To grow its vote?:
Did you use a tripod? This would help eliminate the shakes and only leave the real motion blur. also think hard about composition as you are taking your shot - I find this helps heaps.
Summary:
Interesting shot .. don't scare people with titles too much ... you can share your faith without scaring people :)
Keep it up .. you will improve .. take the time to look at others works .. so you can see what make a good pic.
If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.
Cheers

I'm not much for receiving or giving comments, but since Candids are
near and dear to my heart, I have decided to give comment on every entry
in this challenge.
If I were to list this in categories, it would be under performance and snapshot. The photo is way out of focus aside from the motion blur, and badly lit. Unfortunately I have to say it was badly composed. Not much of interest is being portrayed that isn't expected. It's a 2 for me. |

The light was an issue here. Not only the hands of drummer are blured but all picture! A tripod can make easier, next time. |
