Changes to B + W, otherwise, straight out of the camera. As a color shot, it was too bright with too many reflections. The sun was very bright.

Greetings from the Critique Club...

Positives:

Good choice in going with a b/w version especially for this challenge. The image is also sharp and overall has good detail. Speaking of details, I like how you captured the name on the side of the helicopter. That right there helps tell the story without the need for the title, which is great. I also like the subject you chose, which is very fitting for the challenge in general.

Suggested Improvements:

I like the idea that you wanted to capture the pilot closeup, however his expression comes off as uninteresting and he's hard to see between that strong glass reflection and his gear. What I'd recommend is trying to capture him when he's more animated or perhaps getting into the helicopter or engaged with others with the helicopter as the backdrop. Doing that may introduce more emotion/impact that is otherwise lacking with his expression and how he is situated in this photo.

From a technical aspect, I might do a levels adjustment on this one because the blacks don't look black enough.

Summary:

Strong entry for the challenge but just lacked that something extra to do better. For this subject, motion (from the subject or helicopter) would have produce a lot of impact.

Edited for spelling.

The hospital a few blocks down the street has a landing pad for our version of these guys.

Wish it was not cropped so tight, but you may not have been able to be further back.

not sure if he's a hero, but a very nice photo that I could see in a paper - maybe the front page if he's going on strike

A little too close crop and too much glare

Nice shot but lacks the impact that it might have had if it were taking off or landing or even if the rotors were visible. 6
