Greetings from the Critique Club
Hey Jon. The image in itself as an entry to Photojournalism is a tough one. For one thing, I think the subject could have been isolated so that the viewer focuses more on him. The lighting could be improved more. I think for this to be an effective image, additional motion blur would have been great. It would really show the action and the motion of the skateboarder. The background is dark and a bit unappealing. For this to be a newsworthy image, a "bang" title is a must. Imagine yourself competing with so many photographers for that one spot on the news. Yours should be able to stand out and a great title would nauil it. A lower POV would be great as well as my eyes trail off to the page as I follow his direction of travel.
I hope the comments I have made are taken as constructive and not meant to discourage you. I am impressed by your improvement since you joined the site Jon and I'm looking for the day when you can give us a knock me off my feet image. Good luck.
Cheers,
Rikki

for sports front page ? nice action shot, it would be much better if the scater is the only one on the photo |

So, what's the news? Are the kids doing drugs? Are they using skating to stay out of trouble? A cutline style title would have helped a lot. |
