"Mother Cabrini Shrine, located beyond the foothills of Golden, Colorado, was established by Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini as a summer camp for orphan children and for the purpose of spreading the gospel. With her beatification in 1938, the property became a place of prayer, pilgrimage and devotion to Mother Cabrini and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The shrine is one of many missions served by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus."
Prayer candles inside the shrine. One of the faithful pilgrims pointed out to me, after his prayers, that the gate that ran behind a row of pillar candles separating the pews from the statue of St. Frances Cabrini was open if I was interested in checking that out, too. You just never know who is going to be helpful and who is going to chase out the heathens. ;-)
One of the highlights of Mother Cabrini Shrine is a hillside staircase lined with mosaic depictions of the Stations of the Cross, leading to the top of a mountain where stands a giant statue of Jesus that overlooks the city of Denver. While I was there, the nuns were holding First Communion classes. They appeared to be quite interactive and launched the kids on a scavenger hunt to find various places and complete certain small tasks around the property: find each Station, drink from the holy water spring, say a prayer at the shrine, etc. It was much more interesting than my FC classes during my Catholic school girl days. ;-)

Post-challenge: You know, I really have nothing to add to this in the way of reflective commentary. It would have been nice if more of the candles were lit, but it would have been disrespectful to do so, especially since I didn't have the suggested fifty cent donation for one candle, let alone four or five. Having been raised a Catholic, I wasn't about to misuse a holy shrine for the sake of a tenth of a point or two. Things that other people criticized are things that I enjoy, like the texture of the wall and the slight side-view angle. I had straight-on shots that I simply didn't like. This angle was a lot more intimate, as though the viewer is standing over the candles himself.

First Impression Nice shot.
Composition: I would have liked the different composition. Two things I don't like about the composition, the angle and looking down. If I have to take this shot, I will sit down and take picture looking up.
Subject: I really like the subject, fits the challenge well
Technical (Colour and light): The color and lighting is okay here. It's well exposed photo.
Improvement: Different composition and Crop. I would rather like to see this in Landscape mode.
Summary: Meets the challenge, good exposure.
Hey, I know that place. I see the sign all the time, on I-70. Nice shot. The colors look good. Composition is nice. I wonder how it would look if more candles were lit.
