Good DOF but I don't understand its relation to the challenge. I look forward to seeing your comments. - 6 |

I like the focus on the chain instead of the child. It enhances the idea of loneliness. |

O i so wouldve jawdropped had the pic been an inch closer to chain and the boys face seen thru the whole. or maybe his expression is covered reasonably.. hmm. well done and makes me think. 10 |

This is one of those comments that people moan about but I really do find that the background detracts from the core idea of this image. I love the idea of the stark metal chain partially obscuring the lonely looking child on the swings. I love the way his clothes reflect the reds and greys of the swing. But I really do find that the background park area of vivid blues and yellows takes a lot of the mood away. Some may feel exactly the opposite because, on the other hand, that bright coloured area is like a separate happy world which this kid isn't a part of. It just doesn't work like that for me. I think DOF choice here is absolutely excellent.

I learned something from seeing this picture. I like the way it is focused up close but the image in the background is what is "desolate'. Thanks for the example. |

Ohh I know I not gonna be the 1st to say this, but the focus would have been better if on the boy-- but I like your unusual eye for the shot-- brave photo-- 8 |

I love the idea of this, but i would've liked it much better if the kid was the focus, not the chain. Also, the chain is centered in the photo which goes against the rule of thirds. |

I like the idea, but it has not been carried out very well. It would have been nice to have included the boys head, and not neck, in the gap by perhaps a shot from a different angle. The problem with playgrounds is all the distracting things around so perhaps if there was nothing behind you, it would have been better to swap places with the subject.
However, well done. Good try. =) |

This is a very moving shot! A great depiction of lonliness! :) |

Great photo. I would have put the links a bit off center though so I could have seen more of the child. Great depth of focus. |

good idea, could do with the boy being a bit more in focus |

nice idea. even though he is blurred, i wish we could see more of him, instead of being blocked by the chain. perhaps taken from farther away... |

The chain is left alone, right. I feel the boy should be in focus. I am trying to get inside this shot, but I can't see your point of view. Sorry, that I am unable to connect. 4 |

I like the subject, but the chain in the middle doesn't do anything to help the shot much. |

The more I look at this photo the more really like it. It takes a bit to get passed the chain. Great composition and really good emotion! This is one of the better shots that I have judged! Good job! |

One of my top three, I love the composition and excellent use of DOF. |

You earned a 10 from me. Even with out seening his face you can feel the desolation. I loved it, GREAT job. |

Great idea & focus... Perhaps move to the left or right. |

I figured it out the 2nd time I looked. I would have tried a little different angle with the same focus, so the child wasn't obscured as much. |

I'm not really sure what you were trying to display with this image. It's interesting... the chain is the only thing that is in focus, which is fine considering that it is obvious that that is what you wanted, but I'm not sure what you were tying to say. The colorful image of the playground in the background detract from the idea of anything here being desolate. Perhaps it might have been more moving had it been taken or converted to black and white. |

Good idea. I would have chosen a different perspective though. In my opinion the main subject (the child) should have been given more attention. |

This is one of those photos that causes me to stop and think. I like that. At first, I thought the focus should be on the boy but the longer I look at it, the more I realize that you were right in keeping him soft in the background. It reiterates the feel of his loneliness, of not being the focus in anyone's life at that given moment. Whether he was asked to sit that way or it was a candid shot, his body language is perfect. |

Nice, this shot makes you want to look at it a bit longer than most others in this challenge. The focus is key element here I think, and putting the chain in front of the kid was a good call. Maybe it would be better to put the chain and kid a bit off center, but thats a matter of taste. Good job. |

I like the idea, but still it's the child which is left alone, isn't it? I would have focused the kid (maybe swinging, so one could see it behind the chain link) and not the chain. Hope that helps a bit. |

this doesn't come clear for me..the swing chain (?) is too dominant for the kid's emotion to really show through |

great, great depthnof field in this shot. i love the emphasis on the chain. this one pic can tell many stories. great job!! |

wow, this had potential... but i think it was a poor decision to block out the kid... great idea though |
