for me the expression on the subject's face is not desolate and the lights in the background speak of human inhabitants, again not desolate

love the monumental silohuette. with the harshly lit person, overall interesting image.

Doesn't really evoke desolation. The guy looks more like a happy tourist here.

I think this shot would be a lot stronger without the person in it.
