NO CROP

This was taken during a super cell thunderstorm at 12:05am on May 9th. It was an unbelievable night! I got lots of lightning shots, but sensor dust really killed a bunch of them to basic editing and not being able to smudge those out.

This is my best shot of the night with multiple lit leads going horizontal across the sky. A bit of gamma lightening seemed to get rid of the sensor dust, although it took away from the tones I would have liked to have used. Oh well. :) Better then sending my camera away for 4 weeks of cleaning, although I know it must be done sooner or later. :(

Strangeghost, you were right on with your comments. I SO wish sensor dust didn't prevent me from doing that. I was hoping a "night shot" would prevent them from showing, but this lightning lit up the sky so bright, they came out in the shot. Maybe I will fix it up and put it in my port when done.

Thanks everyone for the votes and the comments! I wasn't even expecting to make the 58% percentile.

Terrific shot of the lightning. Wish the scenery had been 'more beautiful'. still, very well done.

While you've done an excellent job of capturing a lightening strike (not easy, I know!), the fact that you've also turned night into day is what leaves this image severely lacking. IMO, if you would have pp'd the shot so the sky darkens again, the contrast between dark sky and while lightening is what makes a shot like this pop.

Did you adjust brightness? If yes - I don't think it was necessary. If no - more contrast could help. I bump it a bit for the quite amount of detail in the picture.

Is that lightning? Very cool. Bummer about the apartments/motel in the foreground; something less distracting would have made this an even more interesting shot.
