Hello from the critique club,
Just to get it out of the way, I think that your score reflects many people's opinion that a close-up flower shot does not meet the theme of the 'holy places' challenge. I really have no opinion on this. If it said holy place to you, that is good enough for me.
To comment on the actual photograph, I like your composition here very much. Leaving a little more petal in the lower right hand corner would make it conform more to the rule of thirds, but I like it the way that it is. I love the lines that the petals make. Some very elegant geometry. I like the choice of black and white. Youhave a nice range of tones.
The image seems fairly soft overall. That may have been the feel you were going for. I think that at least the center part ofthe flower could be sharper.
Please feel free to pm me if you have any questions about my comments.
Cheers,
Liza |

Why this one is Black and White.....
Colour would have made the huge difference |

looks like a black and white painting... like something i did back in highschool. Not enough detail for such a close shot. |

Nice ideas, but the image is very grainy maybe a different resolution could solve this issue. |

I get the idea here, and I'm all for thinking outside the box, but...
I feel like this challenge called for a certain reverence, which this photo does not give to the topic.
Technically it is a really nice shot, but it relies on the title to be linked to the challenge... photos that speak for themselves are always stronger than those that rely on the title. I do like the conversion to B&W, but the link to the challenge is tenious, at best. |

DMC despite the title - saying it don't make it so. |

I don't think this fits the challenge at all. Your title says garden but all we see is a macro of a flower. Photo itself is grainy, fuzzy and the lighting is flat. |

Nice Macro...not quite sure how it qualifies as a Holy Place though. |

A bit of a stretch as a Holy Place, in my view. |

Nice picture, but I don't see this as a holy place. |

Well, this is tough. It's too close up for us to get a sense of the garden, which is supposed to be the subject (it's a heavenly garden, not a heavenly flower). The image looks a bit noisy, but not a big deal. The composition is nice with the offcentered focus. The conversion to B&W is fairly well done. In the end, I'm gonna have to DNMC this one with a 3. |

Sorry - this looks a like like a case of trying to use a title to make the image fit a challenge. Ignoring that, its a great photo that I'm sure would look good blown up on canvas. You'll suffer for not really meeting the challenge in the eyes of a lot of people though so don't think the score reflects the quality of the photo in general. |
