If the ball is transparent, it will invert the light going through it, much like your camera lens does when you look through it without the camera. If the ball is reflective, then it will appear as you were expecting to see.
This looks like a transparent ball. |

::: Critique Club :::
Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.
First Impression - the most important one:
great a ribbon entry to critique .. time to get finickey!
Composition:
I really like this but feel there should be just a tad more in front to force the ball onto horizontal thirds ... but what do I know . .you got the ribbon.
Subject:
Meets the challenge .. even if it was DNMC .. it ribboned!!
Technical (Colour and light):
Great and excellent really.
To grow its vote?:
Shoot the first two and take first spot. This was a really tough challenge ... you did great ... and sooooo very close to second ... point nothing in the score.
Summary:
Great work ... you are really going places. AND THIS IS ONLY your SECOND CHALLENGE!!!!
If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.
Cheers
Kari

Nice DOF. Great shot. The only thing that slightly bugs me is the black squares that have a glare on them. I guess in a way it also adds an interesting touch of imperfection to an otherwise very 'neat' pattern, as well as mimicing the reflectiveness of the ball though. Congrats on the well deserved ribbon! |

I did a crystal ball, too. Your's works better. I like it in B&W. Very simple, clean. |

DNMC--IMO a still life needs to have more than one object.
Interesting shot, but just not for this challenge. |

This meets the challenge – it’s inanimate and arranged. On the edge, but visually challenging. 7 |

Very cool, How did you get the reflection so perfect? |

I think it could be... hmmm... sharper? I don't know but something is missing... anyway I like it. :) |

Nice use of DOF and refraction. The only thing spoiling this for me just a little is the reflections off the black sqaures. |
