Challenge: Self Portrait IV (Advanced Editing IV*)
Collection: Challenges
Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D
Location: Home
Date: May 17, 2006
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/15s

Date Uploaded: May 17, 2006

Ok, not very original, but a lot better then the other selportrait challenge we had a year+ ago.
I am very uncreative I guess and had trouble to come up with anything. So I put on the 50, put it on a tripod in front of a window and stuck my face in the lens while triggering the shutter with my remote. Quick shot (one out of app 80 frames) and quick editing. The nose should be in focus too an the glasses are hell this close (makes the eyes behind the glass unsharp while they are in the plane of focus.

As long as it does better then the Selfportrait III one I'm ok with it.

Editing:
Nikon Capture (original is a NEF);
- Tone compensation to medium high (uppes contrast)
- D-Lighting fast, standard (uppes contrast)
- Nik Color Efex 2.0 standard filter: Paper Toner, paper tone 5, strenght 67% (tones the image to what you see now, it is a bit like duotoning, nothing special)

Photoshop 6 (now 8 bit tiff)
- dodged the eyes
- contrast + and brightness +
- history brushed previous state on the now blown out shirt
- contrast USM
- dodged a bit of skin that was very dark
- PT Lens to add a bit of vignetting +10 or something
- Resampled
- 1st USM 150% 0.3px
- 2nd USM 100% 0.3px (hard sharpening because imo it is ok to have rough skin on a male)
- flipped the image horizontal because I believe that the eye goes from left to right and this way it works better.
- selective color layer where I adjusted the whites, neutrals and blacks a bit to get a different strength of certain tones.

131e? Had een veel hogere score moeten krijgen. De compo vind ik erg mooi, legt de nadruk extra op je ogen.

Good texture, though some of it is lost on your nose. Clone the reflection out of your eyes and loosen up on the crop a bit.

I like the tight crop. Good details. Maybe remove the spec of frame from your glasses on the right. Well done.
