This is a hard drive which I lit on fire after applying a bit of lighter fluid.

The only lighting used was the fire itself. The bright glow on the left is a plastic piece of the hard drive which also caught on fire.

Converted from RAW
Tweaked exposure in PS
Tweaked curves
NI, resized, sharpened, and saved for web

I've been playing with some crazy stuff in Photoshop lately. Here's the result on this image:

Composition: Placement of the flame works well and the arm of the hard drive works as a leading line to the flame. However, the bright spots on the left are a bit of a distraction and leads the viewer out of the image.

Cropping the bright spots on the left could possibly improve the image.

Exposure: Flames are hard to get the exposure right for. In this case, most of the flame is blown out though does not detract from the image. The flame seems to provide enough light to bring out detail in the shadows. Some areas of the arm (small) appear blown out but are not a distraction.

Impact: Some impact is achieved through the use of unusual lighting (the flame).

Processing: Good choice of border. The sharpness of the main subject under the flame is good, however the drive arm appears oversharpened.

Overall, interesting image.

Nice picture. Not sure if I'm digging the widescreen bars, as it makes it look more of a capture from video rather than a picture.

Yep the drive has failed! I don't see what you are trying to accomplish with the "letterbox" frame.

Nice idea and pretty well executed. I still like fire shots way better when there is some texture to the flame, not blown out like in this photo but anyway, nice shot.

Good job, I don't like your border though. Still one of the top images in the challenge.

wow great clarity. Nice sharp photo. I would have liked to seen the pieces of the second flame on the far left cropped out. But still a great photo.

I can't believe there are two identical images in this challenge (so far).

Beautiful colors in the flame without being blown out with highlights - bravo! :)
