Thanks all for the positive feedback... should I kick myself for opting for this shot rather than this?

Greetings from the Critique Club! :)
What a gorgeous scene... you've captured it very well, too! Your technicals are all spot-on...focus, clarity, composition... nice job!
As far as relating to the challenge, well...you know the voters around here love to be hit on the head with the image and I bet you got more than your share of votes from those who saw this and said "What Sun???" In the average 3 seconds a voter takes to judge an image, I bet you got one second to read the title, two seconds to see the image, and then they moved on. Those who weren't quite as rigid probably gave you high marks for the picturesque scene, and the others, well...they probably gave you 5 and under. They're looking for the sun in the background, not as the light source behind you.
In a landscape or scenic challenge, this would be way up there...but in this particular one, it was just probably a bit more of a stretch in some voters' eyes (those eyes that couldn't see the sun, anyway). ;)
Keep clicking, and let me know if you have any questions!
Take care,
Laurie |

I gave it an 8. The foreground elements look good. the horizon is great. The water finishes off this composition nicely. Clouds look good too but if the sun coming up was obviously visible to the veiwer you would have scored heaps more. Still a very nice shot overall that I would be very proud of. |

nicely observed, but not overly dramatic. i'm sure it looks great large, but at dpc it needs a little more zing :( |

I didn't see this whilst voting...I would've given it an 8. |

gorgeous sene. love that we can see the rocks through the water. the mountains are beautiful of course and i think the stormy sky adds to the feel of the shot. great colors and i like the cloud shadows on the hills. |

I love the look of this picture and if I look closely I can see the sun starting to shine from behind me over the water and to the mountains. |

Nice landscape, though a little more shape to the foreground rocks would have been nice - the light has become just a bit flat there; a touch more contrast might also help the feel of the title in the shot. |
