Ya know... I almost used the exact same verse. And I remember this shot very well from the challenge. (I also have a brown ribbon - as do a number of other fairly well respected photogs on here, so wear it proudly, I do!)

I scored this a 5. I personally liked the filter(s) you used, but was afraid you'd get *hit* for it by voters who didn't stop long enough to really look at the shot. Many people will just glance and think it's out of focus, rather than seeing that it's made to be more abstract or like a watercolor painting, mimicking the words and meaning of the song lyrics (at least that's my take on it).

What do I think could improve this?: The lighting is harsh on the ribbon - you've got some nice shadow play, but the brightness against the rest of the rather dull image is a little too much. The colors could be much brighter and *happier*. We're talking about a sea of green and a sky of blue in someone's imagination, so the colors could almost be surreally bright and/or unusual (but usually not drab).

Again, I think you had a great idea and I think you were on the right track with the filter idea, it just didn't quite translate or convey the best that it could have. Keep at it and I still think you do some very interesting and creative things. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

I"m one of the ones who gave you a low score - you have asked for comments so I'll try to explain. Bear in mind this is entirely my opnion and of course others opinions will vary.

The biggest problem in my opinion is lack of focus. It makes it hard to appreciate the photo when I'm not even sure what the subject is - the background could be trees but I'm not certain. The blue object could be a ribbon but again its not clear. Its a very rare photo that works well for me when everything is blurry.

Apart from this I cannot link the image to the title. The blue is clearly not the sky or sea, and the green doesn't look like a sea. Neither particularly remind me of sea or sky either. This was enough to make me feel the image did not meet the challenge well.

Really its quite an abstract image and its rare for an abstract to be voted high here. Personally I like artwork to work on a basic literal level as well as higher levels...

I hope this helps.

I have seen a lot worst, quite a high score for a brown ribbon.
I have a brown myself but unlike you a didn`t expect a low score.
Keep going and your scores will improve for sure.

Focus is neither on the shawl, or on the backgrond. That makes it a confusing picture.

NOTE.... I'm looking at the image first and tyrying to guess the title. If I can't guess, I can't give high marks :-(
