Critique Club:
Overall I'd say you got a great result, particularly out of that camera (no offense intended to your camera ;)) The exposure is excellent, giving it a nice range and decent contrast. The wings seemed to have picked up more of the colour from the gels than her clothing, so they appear a bit grey (or maybe they are grey). either way, a little dodging of the highlights might help bring them up and balance the image out a bit.
Personally I'd have preferred a slightly shallower depth of field, which would set her off from the background a bit. I know that's tough without a dSLR. I'd prefer the shallow DOF because the stark mixture of verticals and horizontals in the background detract a bit from soft diagonals made up by the model and her wings. It's a personal preference of mine, but one that I think would serve this image well.
Conceptually it carries a strong message, which seems to go over well at DP. It's obvious to me that you used a single light source, but sometimes for challenges you need to smack voters in the face with it, as you often only get a few seconds to make your impression. Using a dialled down umbrella rather than a soft box would make it more directional and a little more obvious (outside of this challenge, mind you, the softbox was a perfect choice, and my preference as well)
Very nice entry, Dennis. keep it up.
Pedro

I gave an average score to this piece. Personally, I think it is a 'good enough' pix for DPC. But, at a showing somewhere it may be outstanding.
The thing is, it just doesn't have that wow factor. I know you wanted to show the model, and win a silly virtual ribbon, but I hope you took the time to experiment with your lighting. I hope you were shooting for yourself and found something that would fit the challenge, and not visa versa.
This pix has so much potential. Top 50, not bad. |

The light seems to diffuse to really emphasize the theme. Nevertheless, beautiful image. |

Interesting contrast between the angel and her surroundings. The pose does well to emphasize the lighting. |

Love the location and lighting here. Your model is gorgeous and the idea of wings is real cool. Her expression seems a little stern and her arms and hands are very static. Particularly her right arm looks like its lifeless. Would like to see some of these with them in a stronger pose but thats my only complaint. The muted colors of the location really bring attention to the models soft skin. Good stuff, shots like this are what make wish I had my own studio lights. 9 |

I don't like the title but that's pretty much where my dislike ends. :P Really, great lighting. I also like the composition although a tighter crop may have been better. I also like the pose in general.
Speaking of the pose, there are two things I feel would have made this better. First, her right arm coming out of the darkness and dangling like that makes it look lifeless and doesn't do anything for the shot. So maybe just have her tuck that in. The other thing is her facial expression. It just doesn't look all that sexy to me while everything else about her does. However, it's not as big a deal here because this isn't a close up.
Anyway, that's it. Good luck. |

The best I've seen so far. Excellent lighting and good choice of scenery, looks like she really doesn't belong there, makes the picture interesting. 9 |

That's a kinky religion. :P
There seems to be a slight grayish film over the image, although it might just be my screen.
Was this shot with a single light source? |

Good concept and great light on the model. However, her right arm just hanging there looks "dead". Also, I'm not sure about the objects on the floor. |

Very original idea for a "lightsource" though I don't think it accuratley shows "an artificial light source." Good Job though. She is beautiful. |

Somehow the locaton for this shoot doesnt seem to fit well with an angel. The model doesn't look too comfortable here - not in her pose or her expression. Focus is nice and shapr throughout. Color tones look very natural. |

Creepy angel. Not a fan of the make-up though... or any make-up for that matter. Especially the purplish pinkish whatever ones. 5. |
