This was the first Beatles song that came to mind, and I thought "what the heck, why not". I had no idea how much work this would turn out to be. But, I had a blast, and learned a lot.
I set this up on the dining room table facing the eastern window and waited for the morning light to shine through. I took the picture of Nancy using Rocky wearing the hat that is at his feet. The view out of the window is one I took of Oroville lake not too long ago (but, to be honest, not during the contest dates - if that matters).

CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

This is just too cute. I love the *details* you have taken care of -- the picture, the Bible, the crutch. You have done a really good job of creating scale, or at least creating the illusion of this being a larger scale than it really is. (If that doesn't make sense, PM me and I'll try to explain better).

Compositionally, it feels like the camera should have been to the right just a bit more. When looking at the picture, I find myself almost "scooting" to do that. This angle/perspective shift, would have also moved the main subject out of the center of the frame and put it more on the right third. Also, while all the details are great, I think I would have arranged them more consciously so that a triangle or simple shape was formed. Right now, they look kinda haphazard and the eyes go from the animal to the picture, to the "window" to the thing on the wall, etc. A simple shape would give the eyes a path to follow.

Technically, I like the natural light. Focus and exposure are right on.

Overall, I think you have a very cute and humorous picture. The more I look at it, the more I laugh. Very nice work.

As a set up shot, this is pretty good and it's definitely suited to the challenge. I like the way you used natural light and the shadows it created. Love the "wallpaper" and the fact you used another picture you'd shot as the view out the window!

Nice setup! The depth of field needed to be wider, in my opinion, so rocky's head wouldn't be fuzzy.

Very cute! The lighting doesn't fit the scene though...

Cute and clever. Little softer light might have worked better but still a good job.

A cute interpretation of Rocky Racoon - and gosh darnit every time I see this image (as I am now just getting around to voting and commenting) the song pops up in my head. Which is good because it tells me that you made a strong connection to the song in your photo. I also like the details you placed in this composition. Aside from the stuffed animal racoon splayed in the chair you have a small book on the table. That 'book' makes me think of the lines "Now Rocky Raccoon he fell back in his room Only to find Gideon's bible". It does appear to be a bible. Next is the window with a view of some beautiful landscape. That view makes me think of the opening line of the song " Now somewhere in the black mountain hills of Dakota" Is it Dakota? I don't know but it sure makes me think it possibly is as I gaze upon the photo. My only real critique on this shot is the long shadows present that I find unappealing - mainly the red object on the wall casts this long shadow and there are some strange shadows falling on the right hand side of the wall and floor that could be eliminated with better lighting.

I was actually going to exploit an unroadworthy raccoon for a picture like this, but I felt that level of gore might be worthy of some ridicule.

Now the doctor came in stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said Rocky you met your match
And Rocky said, Doc it's only a scratch
And I'll be better I'll be better doc as soon as I am able.

Great stage-manage.
