I never really noticed that the petals on flowers cast shadows until I took this shot in late afternoon slanting light - not intended for this challenge. I was surprised to see the strong shadows when I looked at it on the computer and scrapped the shot I had originally taken.
Levels and curves to increase contrast, crop, adjust saturation, unsharp mask, clone a couple of bright spots in the leaves and reduce size.

The shadows seem incidental to the photograph as opposed to a major contributng element.

A simple photo. It's nice, but there isn't much too this.

Good use of the square crop.

Yes, they do. Beyond that ... well, I don't see a photographic point to this. Without shadow our images are a collection of colours, so I think this is hardly getting into the spirit of this challenge. Composition is poor also - a simple documenting of a bloom, of which there are many many thousnad versions, and there is nothing special here I'm afraid.

I think the angle could have been played with to get a better cast of shadows. the color of the flower could have been enhanced as well.

nice photo - petal shadows don't jump out though...

if you had cropped the picture more tightly to put the onus on the shapes cast by the petals shadow and the different tones of yellow because of the shadows and light, then i think it might appear to fit the challenge description better. unfortunately, for me, it seems the shadow is purely a chance by-product of a (an admittedly well-taken) shot of a flower, and not so much a prominent element. also, i would suggest possibly scooting down a little more so your head is level with the flower; but that's more personal preference and not a knock on your shot... it is still very pretty, the colours are rich and bright, and the detail reasonably sharp... piture gets 8, meeting challenge gets 4, so an average of 6.
