Basement of my 1898 office building. This shot reminds me of a Wyeth painting - in fact so much I probably am missing seeing many flaws. Thanks to my son going down to that scary place with me and working as my grip.

Single halogen work light (and a really long extension cord)

RAW.
No other modifications even though it is a Member challenge.

Strong composition and very well lit, I love the shadows and the whole photo has a strong visual impact, adds to the emotional part as well! Hope you do well!

Beautiful tones and light. Not the most strident use of shadow, but I like it all the more for that restraint. It's the kind of image that invites some fanciful interpretation, in spite of your presumably deliberately prosaic title! It could be about growth, or death, or even life-after-death. Or of course it could just be about the boiler room steps. Whatever, it's a pleasing and thoughtful photograph, not easily understood and so not easily classified and dismissed. 9.

Oooh...very moody...I like how the stair invites the viewer out of the room.

Very heavy shadow but it works in this case.

Excellent sepia choice to bring out the rustic character and charm of this image.

The shadows are too subtle, but lovely lighting and atmosphere.
