---Greetings from the Critique Club!----
First impression - Interesting use of contrast and negative space.
I kinda like this shot, but I can see how the voters missed it. The lack of any real focal point makes it difficult to see the desolation that the photographer was seeing, feeling at the moment.
The over processing along with the bright daylight conveys a sense of heat. Don't know if that is what you were going for, but that is what I get out of it.
I like the low angle. I wish there was just a bit more in the negative space area to convey more desolation. I'm not second guessing the artistic vision here, I'm just looking for something to improve the over all impact.
You are obvioulsy more of an artist with a camera than a photographer shooting art. I applaud that but it probably won't get you any high scores. I doubt that that matters much to you.
Keep shooting what you feel.
I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
David

Pictures like this had a tough time in the challenge simply because people don't take long to vote. The desolation feel of this shot only seeps in after 30 seconds of viewing. But seep it does. Unfortunately people only take 3-5 seconds per picture to vote and so the picture doesn't get the chance.
The picture looks a little off on PP. You can tell the most by the sign right in the middle. It's such a weird shade of uniform gray, usually stuff like that comes around from too drastic curves or selective color altering. The colors do have a saturated, grainy feel which works in this challenge but wouldn't in nearly any other.
Ah, I just noticed it was in Pittsburgh. I miss the 'burgh... |

Being the conservative stick-in-the-mud that I can be, I was one of your 4's. Glad I got back by to read your comments; I think your photo succeeds at accomplishing your intentions for it. Wishing you well; will make an extra effort to look around and see things. |

Good scene but the processing is a little heavy. |

this fits the topic well but the editing looks to me like you overdid the draganize effect, it's way too obvious and doesn't look at all natural |

Ow, colors a bit too harsh. The black parts on the left could use a bit more detail. |

I know the scene. I think you would have been better desaturating or blurring some of the sky, sign post area so as to get the viewer to focus on the siamese pipes and the cigarette mess. |
