Hey, Shailesh. This is a rather cute moment you shot. When critiquing duotones, however, I tend to look for high contrasts, which, unfortunately, this one doesn't have.
Which isn't to say you this isn't a great photo. It is, actually. Compositionallt and tonally (sic). Selective desat would've worked better here, though.
Whatever man, congrats on the high finish. You did a great job here.

Oh My - you naughty boy! I was just thinking that I had not seen you around and then I find this! LOL! Nice pic, you guys look like you are definitely having fun and indulging in more ways than one. I like the composition and the looks on your faces. The one thing that keeps grabbing my eye is the bright white label on the wine bottle. If you did that by design, than you got the effect you were lookin for, but if you did not want the eye to be drawn to that, then maybe something like a carafe would have worked better.

Greetings from CTP2

Looking at the color version I definitely like that one better for the fabrics but overall I like the duotone version better because it takes a busy scene and keeps the focus squarely where you want it (i.e. your faces). With the color version my eyes drift all over the image too much and everything becomes a distraction. However, with that said I think the color version may have worked better with DPC voters who crave that.

Well that's it. I wish I had some real critiques here but I like this image. I think the technicals are great. I love the lighting and the composition and the layout. It's also very sharp and it has good tonal range and lots of detail which I love. I think you did a bang up job here. I certainly can feel that moment you captured and the duotone helps to convey that.

Hello from Ãlex, CTP MkII

First Impression: wonderful enviromental portrait...LOL. Very well done.
Composition: good, using thirds
Subject: meets the challenge very well. The expressions are great.
Technical: I like the tonality here. Not sure about if the color version is better or not, I like the duotone. The focus is very depth. The lighting is superb.
Improvement: About the focus, I couldn't help reading karmabreeze comment, and I agree about the DOF; maybe the selective focus would have bumped this photo over 6.5+
Summary: Very good job.

Ãlex

This is really nice. The expressions on their faces are heartwarming and lovely...

I was going to comment something similar to what karmabreeze said.. There's always something great about selective DOF...

Colors can be tricky... I might have chosen a low saturation over the duotone... Can't say that it would have made things better of course... Just something else I would have tried... I do like the duotone...

The colour version is charming as well - perhaps better, richer.

Hi Shailesh-

I agree with the voters who wanted the color version. Colored fabrics imply a certain richness and luxury that just don't come across in duotone.

Something that might be interesting with a shot like this is more depth of field. Maybe focus just on the wine and grapes and let the models be a background element instead of competing for focus with the wine. Or vice versa - show the couple enjoying their time. There have been a lot of Lensbaby posts lately, this might be an interesting shot to try something like that as well. Good solid concept!

I like the image very much. I'm sure you had your reasons for toning it this way, but it looks like it would have been very colorful. The label on the bottle is pretty bright and pulls my eye to it - maybe if it was turned 90 degrees it would have been better. 7

Good concept. Nice setting. Well costumed. Focus is good. Lighting is okay, possibly a little flat. For me though, it might have had a much richer feeling in color rather than the sepia.

I like the true sense of happiness in the scene and the way it drives my attention from the glass of wine to the couple. I didn't like the extensive detail and the lamp in the background.

There are only two things that can criticize about this image: (1) I wish the teeth weren't so white (looks a little fake) and (2) The camera had been a bit to the right or left to avoid the lamp shade growing out of the woman's head. Otherwise, I think this is a truly gorgeous shot! I would love to be in this scene... food, comfort, beauty, wine, ... you've got it all. Is this you, Shail? Nice job!

Aaw, that's sweet! Not sure I like the idea of happiness being considered an indulgence - I consider it to be the central tenet of my life. Then again my whole life could be considered a luxury given that I'm within the subset of the human population that doesn't have to worry about food, shelter, water, health...

I like the toning you've used here and the cacaphony of different patterns and textures too - make the environment richer. In my top 20 this challenge.

Go easy on the wine (and your spouse) :-)
Good placement on your heads and bottle. Bottle also wery clean and in good focus, would have preferred to se the other side on it.
Lovely smiles that show how much fun you are having. The only thing that is distracting is the lamp behind in the right.
Overall a very good picture but I always (almost) prefer colour over bw.
P.S. is she saying: Is this the last take? and you are about to say, I hope so :-)
