I had a one track mind here. I really wanted the space to indicate, vaguely, the men and women who have died in subsequent wars to this, thus emphasizing the irony. Zeuszen's comment, below, is indicative of why this did not succeed as I had hoped. I was even blind to the rust spot and other weirdities. Thanks for your comments, if you did.

Sad to think how untrue this is.

I think it would be better if you had trimmed the rust spot out of the shot (top right-middle)

Yes.
I think cropping the right hand side to eliminate the background would have made for a more dramatic image.

This ironic capture (literally) relies entirely on one monumentally incredible sentence. For this reason, the various details (texture, partial background etc.) included here are, IMO, redundant and distracting. I imagine this shot edited to the point of rendering the mere subject, i.e. the statement carved here and an idea of it being part of a monument, no more.

Yet, the irony found here is extreme, and this makes it a rare and, at least, somewhat successful shot.

I like the statement it makes, but the rust spot, and the dark foliage in the background are quite distracting.

Well, I think photographically this shot is not great, but I love your title and the statement you are making.
