Rotated, coverted to sepia, adjusted contrast and brightness, used the burn tool to tone down glare from street light and darken shadows. Used a soft light layer to deepen tones. Flattened layer and sharpened. I am not too sure of this image, it did not turn out quite as I had hoped. I saw her sitting in her little wagon after dark looking sad and forlorn. I saw the street light cascading down almost like a spot light. Thankfully the sadness was not what the title suggests, she was sad because it was time to come in from play and her little friends had to go home. But..sadly enough this could have been a real event for many children. It was Father's Day weekend that is how I thought of the title. thanks to all who commented and voted. It is always appreciated.

How funny, I came to your portfolio from one of your recent entries and instantly recognized this one, after almost 6 years.
It really stuck to my mind, apparently.
I'd better make it a fave, this time :)

Some images truly do tell a story... and this is one of them.

You have managed to depict the dejection and loneliness associated with parental neglect. The dejected mood of the child, replete with hunched shoulders, coupled with the ambience brought upon by the lights... all of these truly lend themselves to a feeling of "Desolation".

Very well done, and well deserving of a high score. Good luck to you.

I already voted a while ago, now I'm back for commenting. I gave this picture a 10. I think it conveys the meaning well. Made me quite depressed to tell the truth. I just hope this was a setup shot for the childs sake because I actually know how this feels.

I really like this shot. Maybe it would be a bit better with a tighter crop...but then the lighting wouldn't look as dramatic. An excellent example of a shot where the right caption set the tone and feel of the shot, at least IMHO

Aww, this is so sad. The little girl's posture is so forlorn, and the duotone adds to the loneliness and disappointment of the image. Nice work.

okay, i'll get the title out o the way first, because frankly, it's a bit rubbish, and it does you photograph no good whatsoever. it feels too heavy handed and completely unnecessary. the shot says so much on it's own, and is so rich in character and feeling and emotion and mood that your title dilutes it. so i'm going to wipe your title from my mind and bask in the brilliance that is your artwork. it's brilliantly understated ,and lit so well fully embracing the environment in which it was taken. technically, it could do with being a little sharper (tripod on a timer?) and the only thin i would have done differently is cropped about half an inch to lose some of the glare at the top. the sepia is a perfect choice, it conveys a sad warmth... i like that your a good distance from the subject too; there is great composition here. very well done. 9.

Your title is like a lawyers leading question in court. It leeds one right up the garden path into believing. The image sits there awaiting the viewer. Both work very well together and evoke a strong sense of sad desolation. Considering many nations are littered these days with broken, divorced, one-parent families, this image I think can be understood by a wide audience. It is not repugnant - but very sad.
