Taken at Limantour Beach, California while on vacation with my girlfriend. We moved the log around to get the flames to make shadows for abit then put it out and never thought about the sparks. Also really had to work the magentas because for some reason I had two flares right under the log that I had to try and blend in, hopefully they aren't too annoying. Really wished I could have used clone stamp!
Post Challenge:Thanks everyone for your comments and critiques. For those I who wished I had lightened the foreground with a flash or light I used shadow/highlight to bring out the shadows and it worked wonders.

Very smart. What point in the sky is this pointing at? North Star or something? I know nothing.

Pretty cool, I've always wanted to do is but it hard to find a good dark place in our crowded little overexposed country. :(

You deserve a high score for patience :) I'm not sure about the foreground though but you probably didn't want to try it again, right?

Pretty cool shot, I threw a 6 on it, needs a more interesting or spectacular foreground to win me over (remember, I live in the northern hemisphere and have seen TONS of similar shots) but nice work.

Good image. I like the opposing focal points of the fire in the bottom left versus the concentric circles drawing the eye to the upper right. Adding a little more (but not too much!) lighting of the grass etc. in the central band of the photo would have enhanced I think... with an exposure as long as yours, this would have been possible with a handheld light or even a controlled off-camera flash. But overall well conceived and executed.

My guess is exposure time around 15 minutes on this one? In the foregound, are these lights from eye reflections of animals? look forward to details :-)
