-4th place! That is AWSOME! (Revised: 3rd place! That is SWEET!)

-Thank you for the comments & votes.

-About the photo-
The city in the background is Waikiki, Hawaii. The palm trees were lit by street lights shorter than the palms highlighting the branches from below. My intentions were to get a dramatic angle and try and lead the viewer’s eye through the image. I learned from my last attempt of palm trees against a night sky with a city below that I needed the trees to stand out from the dark sky. Lucky for me there were a few clouds to add to the composition. I converted to Grayscale first then to duotones, a hint of light brown set it off nicely.

-color-

Ahhh. Kapiolani Park. I was just there Sunday. This is an outstanding shot. I like the duo tone even more than the color version...and I'm a big fan of color. Very impressive work.

Outstanding work and excellent post processing. After looking at your portfolio I've decided that my next lens will be a 10-22 as well.

Congrats on the Daniel.
I'm torn between the color & your toned versions, but regardless, they are both great images!

My eye is instantly drawn to the top of the front palm tree, which looks great, and then I look back and see the city, which is also really cool! Great composition; the tones work well in this shot. Bump to 10- hope this does well for you.
06/27/2006 11:04:33 PM

love the wide angle and perspective...great as a b and w...hope this does well for you
06/26/2006 12:47:10 PM
The wide angle lens and the duotone really make this an outstanding shot.
06/26/2006 12:41:56 PM
like the use of duotone here, and the trunks of the trees do a good job of framing the city behind them. 8.
06/25/2006 10:41:52 PM
Great contrast. Love the framing.
06/25/2006 10:41:21 PM

STUNNING. If I could have given it a 12, I would have. It's a 10 for sure plus more. The palms really add to this and the choice of tones is delicious. I am choosing it as a favorite.
06/24/2006 02:37:36 AM
Nice monoprint
06/23/2006 08:42:00 PM
Nice pic, I like the tone of the b&w. It almost looks like you used a flash to illuminate the foreground, you have a hot spot on the first tree, but I don't think you needed it. Perhaps it is coming from street lights.
06/23/2006 07:10:26 PM
Beautiful... At first I was going to say it would probably be more beautiful in colors, but.... I don´t know... Perhaps this is better. At least I love it :o)
06/23/2006 07:02:44 PM
hawaii?
06/23/2006 06:30:31 PM
Great b/w!!! 10

Wonderfull
06/23/2006 12:41:01 PM
Love the battle of nature vs. city, beach vs. buildings. Both are beautiful--each in their own way. Great perspective, framing, lighting, sky.

I really like the different testures the long exposure had given this - nice sharp trees, marshmellow clouds, hard buildings and smooth water and the black sky - 8
06/23/2006 07:47:38 AM
Love this! The sky looks cool and I love the composition of the city to the palm trees.
06/23/2006 07:18:18 AM
Really love the composition of this shot, outstanding in my opinion. I like the use of monotone colour too, but would be keen to see the colour shot too. Well done and good luck!
06/23/2006 05:42:03 AM
Wonderful photograph!!!
06/22/2006 11:37:23 PM
Nice triangle with the first two palm trees, framing the city in the background.
06/22/2006 08:37:10 PM
love the mood of this shot!! Very nice!!! one of my favorites!!
06/22/2006 12:37:31 PM
Great B&W shot. Lights close to the city are a bit blown but overall a ver impressive image.
06/22/2006 10:06:26 AM
this image appeals to me; it's a unique composition..the palms and the sky create an interesting visual effect.
06/22/2006 09:41:18 AM
A ribbon pick in my book, if not a serious contender. Great Job, I'd hang it on my wall any day.
06/21/2006 10:39:38 PM
I really enjoy looking at this shot...you should put this on DCPrints.....probably get some takers. I like the perspective and how the cityline is in the background. My only little gripe is the blownout light in the center of the frame, a little hot. Good luck though, this is great
06/21/2006 10:23:37 PM
Very nice composition. Lots of leading lines in this one when you look closely. Great job!
06/21/2006 07:41:45 PM
Nice point of view! I really like the black and white here too. Great job.
06/21/2006 06:35:34 PM
Very nice. I like the perspective and the black and white conversion.
06/21/2006 05:42:04 PM
This is one of my favourites. I like the glowing city in the background and I think it works well in B&W.
06/21/2006 11:42:34 AM
very, very nice!
06/21/2006 11:25:39 AM
very nice bizarro shot :-)
