We had a big hail storm today (6/24) with quarter-sized hail, and I ran out to document the aftermath before the hail stones melted. I found a gutter spout that was positively rushing with water, but the concrete drain guide was displaced and broken so the rapids were only hitting a corner. You can see a few small melting hail stones in the upper left corner.

Hi Rebecca,
sorry it's taken me awhile to get to my critiques this week.
I liked this the best of the blurred water shots. You did an excellent job of catching the rushing aspect of the water moving my. And the cement is right on focus and nicely composed. The one thing I can think of that might have really boosted this would be to have some point of interest in it. Like maybe something living like a frog (or some dead ladybugs Ü) sitting on the cement waiting to get across.

Well, the motion blur is nicely captured, but the subject is just a bit too ordinary. It may have been able to go the abstract or geometric route if you had cropped so that the upper left concrete (which is a nice contrasty color to the rest) took up a perfect quarter of the picture and was squared off. Otherwise, I think you did about as much as you could with this shot and it was ultimately just the subject choice which limited you.

I was a tough voter on the water shots mainly because I wanted to see motion conveyed and the long exposure shots on many of them just didn't do that visually. However, yours did and I scored it a 6. It would have been higher but I felt it needed something other than that concret edge as a focal point. If it was a rock with smooth edges or was porous it would have been better, IMO. That might sound arbitrary but that's what I'm thinking would have worked better for me. I did like how the concret contrasted well against the water and also the texture of it in general as well as the water.

Good clarity and placement of that cement block.

This definitely makes it appear that the water is rushing. However, for me it just isn't that interesting of a shot, maybe a wider angle would help give me a sense of place.
