thanks everyone for the votes!!

Taken in richmond park, richmond, london as usual. he just sprung out of nowhere when I was walking through looking for deer to chase. Wasnt sure of how to crop him. I went for the negative space. Still not entirely happy with it.

This defines photography for me. What a great captured frame in the life of a beautiful free animal. One of my favorite images on DPC.

Very good shot! Very accurate panning on your subject and without a IS system to back it up!

The vignetting is quite overwhelming though. Used a 2x extender?

Congratulations! This was one of my top piclks. One of the things I liked about this picture was the negative space, so though you were not happy with it, I liked it!

I find the negative space accentuates the forward motion and impression of speed, and also somehow stresses his... wildness? I love it :)
Congrats!

Great catch, hunting with a Canon is a lot better than hunting with a gun in my opinion. :) Congrats on 2nd place.

Congrats dude, love the red warm tones in this one. I definately think this is better than mine so well deserved, I would have had your place though if my score wouldn´t have dropped the last 2 days, was hanging at 6.9-6.95 for a long time :)

The blur of the background and the legs works well to convey the movement of the animal. but there's too much of this photo with nothing much going on. Maybe it needs to be cropped more tightly.

Good clarity of the animal and the composition is spot on.

This is a great capture! Keeping the deer to the left gives him a sense of destination, which is something I always look for in shots where the subject is facing a direction other than into the camera. The exposure is perhaps a bit too far into the red hues for my taste, but I think you'll do very well with this!

What a jump! A very young deer with lots of motion fits the challenge very nicely. The background looks almost like a pointillism painting.

06/27/2006 01:34:43 PM
Good colors, although the subject seems a bit soft... maybe if the deer were more crisper... or if the crop made the deer larger in the frame?
06/27/2006 06:26:00 AM
lovely shot I like the way you have caught the deer 7

Beautiful! Such a rigid pose - matches exactly what I've seen in documentaries. They really do seem like they have springs in their feet. 8.

My one suggestion would be to crop out the black part at the top, which I find distracting.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
06/27/2006 01:10:32 AM
crop right down to that - we don't need all that blur to prove you did it - the deer is the cool part, a MUCH tighter crop would make this very strong IMO - maybe angle it a little, the crop, so the blurs are forming angles?

Interesting to see this deer and how it articulates. Sort of like a jumper, as in kangaroo.

Looks like the fawn is flying! Very nice job of motion panning to catch the action the way you have. You also did well leaving empty space out front for the deer to "move into". The vignetting is a little obvious, but not sure how it could have been done much differently. Good luck.

Smile and keep having fun! ;^)
