Yes, separation is the word. A striking image, very disturbing and moving. The eye contact and the open palm imply strong connection, and the dirty glass severs it. One gets similar feeling from some Bergman movies.

Beautiful...The image does capture a sense of youthful wisdom while at the same time conveying vulnerability. Very emotive.

A powerfully poignant composition, imparting a strong sense of sadness and separation. Beautiful.

The low light on the hand really emphasises the sense of there being a barrier, which is further enhanced by the imperfections on the glass in front of the face. And since the boy is clearly in the sunlight, while we are not, there's a strong sense that it is the viewer who has been isolated, not the boy.

I could sit and look at this for ages. I have, in fact.

Like the B/W and the noise/grain in this shot. The child's expression and his hand against the window works for me as well. Bumping up!

Somehow the graininess works to strengthen the pensive mood set by the model and the high key treatment of him. It's a great shot!.

Very nice. I particularly like the scratches and dirt, those things really help with the glass theme.

It's nice to see a photograph with a person in it. This is beautiful. The black and white and the grain suit it IMO.

Cute shot, normally I HATE noise/grain but here it really works to enhance the mood in the shot, love the tonal range too, if only to nitpick about the hand being maybe slightly lighter toned, in tune with the face. 7 from me, I really like it.

Great choice making it black and white. Also, I like the connection with the subject and I think that the grain/noise works perfectly with this image.

Original. Has a nice texture. I also like the child's expression.
Some might argue it doesn't meet the challenge but I'll give you the benifit of the doubt.
