Sheesh.
Shame on that kit lens and +3 close-up adaptor for allowing me the closest look I have ever had of an Alien.
(about a 50% crop too)
Viewed 100% before crop - just plain skeery!
Built-in flash used, no diffuser, -1EV

Sheesh Brad, you hang out with some of the strangest people. :)

ps - THAT is an awesome (albeit hideous) image!

goodness!! how physically close did you have to get to it???
I tried taking a picture of a spider once....it was in a spider web and it was a little windy....so it kept swaying....and I kept swaying...needless to say all the pictures were blurry :) I was too chicken shit to get close to it....I figured the 100mm canon macro or Sigma 105 macro would be good...because I could be farther away :)

A thing of beauty and yet, so disgusting! I didn't know that the adaptors worked so well.

Close-up adaptors are basically nothing more than a maginifying glass in a threaded on filter housing that is a poor man's way around buying an expensive macro lens. *grins*
Take one widely frowned-on "kit" lens, add a $20 magnifying glass on the end of it, set lens to 55mm, manually focus to closest setting, and move in/out to get the focus right. (AF works too, but can hunt around too much for me) and voila !
I do have to say they do give a lot of bang for the buck.

Often sold in sets of varying strengths.

Wow, this is incredible, I can't believe you can achieve this result with the kit lens .. What is a closeup adapter anyway?
