Think Timon, in the Lion King! Thanks for the correct spelling from Judy in Austin Texas!!! Great shot, Meerkat is a an English loan word from the Dutch meaning lake cat. Their latin name is Suricata suricatta, which is part of the Mongoose family. They are the sweetest little guys, that we see loads of in the open veld (fields) of Southern Africa.
