I knew what I wanted to do for the challenge, but couldn't make it look the way I wanted by placing the petals and flower directly on the colored cardboard. Then I thought about a mirror, so found one and rearranged the flowers and petal directly on the mirror with the colored cardboard standing on the far side, so that it showed in the reflection.

PP included: levels/curves, lighting/exposure, color sat, contrast, burn/dodge brush, blending brush to clean up some specks of pollen and dirt on the mirror, tint brush on the stem, selective layer of petal brightening & whitening, more levels/curves, Neat Image, crop, add border, save for Web.

The composition and approach/perspective of this shot should have set this one apart. Very nice concept, well shot subject, colors are excellent and using the mirror was the right touch. Wish it had done better - perhaps the recent flower challenge was too soon for the shot. It is definitely well done and deserved to place better. The focus is spot on and the DoF is just right for the composition. Well done Jimmy!

what I like:
I like the flower and the set up - leaving the single petal was a good choice. The colors are vibrant and it seems well exposed. While the depth of feild is shallow I think it works well.

what I don't like:
I'm not fond of the mirror. while you have 10 petals the mirror confuses the image a bit. I also would have prefered a different colored base. With the yellow being nearly the same color as the flower it just doesn't seem to pop as well as it could.

A different color background to contrast would have worked better for my taste. I like the reflections.

I love the gold color all around on this one. Makes for a nice contrast to the white petals and their subtle bit of yellow and green.

Haven't I seen a flower before? :) I like this one a lot. It's smart how you put the flower on a mirror. I like the bakground and the sharpness of the flower.
