Artsy! Interesting and strong graphic. Doesn't show much of the natural texture though.

Simple yet so effective. Good image.

I am not a big fan of posterization, and it seems that you may have put the cart before the horse--making texture instead of finding it. *4* -balynch

This is a pretty neat shot....I think it pushes it as far as meeting the challenge, but otherwise, not a bad idea.kdjohnson

great use of color, shading to bring out texture. Good job!

I dont know how you did it and im guessing its legal. I bet noone has said anything about that one little pixel. To bad you cant just fix it for the contest. cool shot.

Interesting. I think using the rule of thirds would be more effective with the empty black space - I would crop out the left black space and some of the wrist (sometimes I try it while I'm voting - shrinking the screen so that only that portion shows - and I like it) There is strong lines at the base of the thumb that really come out when the left is cropped closer - Just my opinion. This is great work.

I can't fault the photo nor your imagination. Perfect 10.

interesting photo. .did u use high ISO to obtain the grain?
07/24/2002 09:33:00 PM
The lighting doesn't really allow for this effect to satisfactorily capture texture.

What a novel, original idea! I'm not sure if I really LIKE it, but I have to give you points for the originality

This is a very cool shot. I see the texture, but I feel that that texture is more from post processing than from the subject itself. This is still a PHOTO challenge. I am willing to bet real money the original photo barely resembles the above image. For a post processing score, you get a 10, for THIS challenge, I will go as far as a 5. If I am wrong with any of my assumptions, I will gladly take them back and double your score. Swash (Hint: this might have been a good candidate for an Admin Note)

very nicely done.

Was this filtered to get the grainy effect? I don't see the texture of a hand just the graininess of the picture......

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

I like this, and though I think I have a basic idea how you did it, I want the details. So simple, yet so artisitic. Great work. karmat

This is a very compelling photograph, I keep coming back to this one. I am very happy to see someone taking a risk and hope others feel the same. BAMartin

07/23/2002 12:53:00 AM
unique and interesting
07/22/2002 10:33:00 PM
too high g rain effect to show real texture
07/22/2002 09:18:00 PM
I like it! Any post processing? or is that straight from camera?
07/22/2002 04:06:00 PM
Cool technique.....

The computer enhanced texture is neat.. This photo has been altered to the point that, to me, it is no longer a photograph. It does resemble something that could have been a photo at one point, but it has lost that now. = 3 - jmsetzler

nice, how did you generalize the light in this shot for that grainy effect? very sucessful
07/22/2002 06:41:00 AM
very daring!
07/22/2002 03:04:00 AM
you managed to take what would otherwise be a typical photo and give it interest. I feel like I need more, though. could the hand be holding something? I dunno.
07/22/2002 01:09:00 AM
Nice I like this....very nice. Filter?? Kee
