 Pretty much impossible to NOT take pics of this kid... He just looked fantastic in that green hair... What's really funny is that his Dad showed up with a hairstyle (and color) that made this look boring and tame in comparison...

I wish I had a shot of him, but no flash was allowed and he was sitting in one of the darkest areas of the auditorium.

I really need some tips on this one... The softness in the face really throws this one off badly... More troubles with that durned 50mm f/1.8.

His face looks so flat...

Any tips would be appreciated.

Funny, I'm not very bothered about the softness of his face. The first thing that drew me to this is his expression and the softness seems almost natural since energy is not static but rather fluid (hope that makes sense). I didn't even notice the hair till I read your comments. Anyway my point is that, I'd focused on his face and crop out the other bits. This photo is all about the kid's expression, not his hair. The background is distracting and doesn't do his face justice. Just my thought.

Great emotive shot. Full of energy and expression. Focus seems a little soft on the face. Love the green hair, though!
