I like this shot. Dark, lighting is great, leaves alot to the imagination- maybe too much for some people.
I think one thing that may have hurt it a little in the challenge is that it is a little out of the box for lines. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great entry for this challenge (certainly meets challenge), but somehow I'd bet that a few of those two's, three's or fours were looking for "LINES!!!" and didn't find them here.
I didn't vote in this challenge- Lazy, lazy, lazy. I would've probably given you an 8 on this. In looking at the challenge there are at least 6 images that scored way too low (at the same time I see that many that think scored high). |

This is much better than the score reflects. I love this shot. The darkness and the implication is awesome. Technically almost perfect I think. Great work Hanneke!

Hmm, I likely would not have commented on this one in a challange,
1) I also find it really dark
2) I find the subject a bit dark and disturbing
3) I am not really sure what I am looking at - but at a subconsconsious level it displeases me. |

Honesty is a thing I can only appreciate, routerguy!
you know what, I think you have a point with this:
"If an edge is the same as a line then a picture of anything in the physical universe would meet the challenge."
thanks for your comment! |

I voted a 5 on this.
The image is so dark that the rope prop becomes a distraction.
I didn't feel that using the contrast between the skin and the black background was really showing lines. I guess it is splitting hairs, but this is just exploiting contrast that highlights the edges of the body parts. If an edge is the same as a line then a picture of anything in the physical universe would meet the challenge. ;)
Were the rope more prominent in the photo, it would have better relayed the concept to me.
So, there ya go. I get a lot of hatemail for being a troll, so a 5 from me is probably a 7 or 8 from someone else ;). Above comments aside, I really did like the photo. |

I didn't vote on Lines, I was suffering from voter fatigue :(
But I would have given this a 7, 8 or 9 depending on my mood and the standard of the other entries. I think the lines, the texture of the skin and the rope and especially the lighting are superb. |

Very nice. I like the diagonal of the image and the delicate texture of the skin. |

Beautiful, subtle light...great composition as well. I bet the voters with non-calibrated monitors thought "eh, too dark, 5..." because it should have ranked a lot higher. Excellent image. :) |

I agree with Art. The lighting is good and if you really like this then that's all that matters. For me, I really couldn't connect with the image. The lines and shapes produced here isn't what I normally would associate with the human form. It almost feels alien like in the triangles the lines form (the elbow, the two ropes as they cross the borders, etc). If anything I like this image more for the texture of the skin and the velvety feel of the robes. Hope that helps! |

I thought this was a very beautiful shot, a bit hard to tell which part of the body it is at first, but the skin and the black cord are perfectly soft and the colors are spot on... I'd also agree with everything photoheathen said |

indeed underrated...I think you may have been the victim of some extremely literal interpretation of "lines"
I love the texture of the skin...I wonder how this would look in B+W |

Definitely under-rated. Your lighting is excellent here and the skin textures you captured are really good. The concept is interesting and bold and definitely makes you look.
Oh, and ROPE is GOOD :-) |

Interesting. Good lighting. Hard to tell what I am looking at - makes it somewhat abstract, which is probably what you were going for. Well, heck, if you absolutely love it, then so do I. :) |

this is terrific.... I love the concept and a bit darker set up for theis one, where one sees ropes, one needs no much light, right :P |
