I hope I don't get a DQ coz I wonder if those aluminium specks and the silver rings are considered as grayscale subjects!

At first I took this for the other challenge (Color on Color) ... it somehow gave me the idea of "camouflage". But as I read the descriptions over and over again, somehow I felt this would go better here in this theme ... I hope I'm not wrong!! *cross fingers*

I actually took more time tearing those aluminium foils into tiny specks for the background than to actually photograph this! Shot this with the Hoya Macro +7 filters attached. White balance was set to incandescent. Lighted with a torchlight diffused with a crystal to get spreaded light spots.

(GIMP) Levels, curves, burn highlights, apply saturation brush on CA areas, USM.

The photo is well composed but there is too much going on for me. It is a little hard to look and take in.

I haven't looked at the comments, but I bet a large part of your problem was meeting the challenge. For a picture that is supposed to be B&W, there is an awful lot of yellow in those rings.

The idea is creative and I like that. The picture is very centered which leads to a static feel. Also, the DOF doesn't help us. I would have increased it enough to make the whole ring in focus rather than having the back portion OOF. Or, if you wanted a shallow DOF, I would have focused on the back portion rather than the front because it stands out more than the front which gets a bit lost in the foil.
