Pahoehoe lava, ropey lava. It flows and looks like coils of rope. That's the nature of basaltic lava, not very viscous. Therefore basaltic volcanoes tend to be rather sublime in their erruptions - rather than the Mt St Helens' type which is highly viscious andesitic and tends to explode. Standing on a moving lava flow can be fun. Try it sometime! |

A really nice photograph. I love the textures that you have captured in this one. The image reminds me of Mount doom from LOTR ;-) Good work. |
