I'm not usually one for animal portrait-ry (?), but THIS is interesting. The shiny bolt head in the upper right is distracting, but i actually like it.

Technically, the bolt is just a hindrance... but in this case, it reflects the interaction between you and your pet. Your image within the picture isn't expected, but it is a nice way to create your own keepsake, to remember this small friend for years to come. Great job.

Of course, if this isn't your pet, forget everything I just said!

I agree that lightening the puppy's eyes would be nice but I like him where he is. I really like this pic...a lot.

If you could only have pushed the puppy back to the left 4inches. I find the hard horizontial in the upper right distracting. Clone out the button in the wood also, it is the first thing my eye goes to cause its shiny. The model is nicely composed, but the face is a little under exposed. I cannot see the eyes. try to lighten up this area in photoshop.
