Jeanne,

I gave this image a 5, as it definitely meets the challenge but it could use a few technical improvements. First, the out of focus area on the bottom left corner and the large stand alone yellow piece in the bottom right corner both compete for the viewer's attention. This is not good considering that neither are really the primary focus point of this image. The good news is that this image does have a good focus point and that is the odd shaped yellow piece in the upper left quadrant. By cropping off about a third off the bottom from the image and about an eighth from the right and left side, the true focal point sits dead on the rule of thirds node and the out of focus candy behind it and to the right provides very nice diagonal leading lines back to the main subject.

The other main technical issue with this image is the lighting. It is easy to tell that you used two light sources for this image by the reflections. I suggest you try using white poster board as a reflector (Or a foil type windshield screen) in place of the 60-watt light bulb for your second light source. This will provide a nice diffused light from the opposite side of the window, which will minimize the glare and still remove the harsh shadows that your light bulb took care of.

Lastly, this image could use just a bit of sharpening after you resized it for posting. And for studio shots like this, use a tripod if you have one. It can only help.

Tim

I like this interpretation of 'bits and pieces'...simple and effective.

I like the colors, but there is almost to much stark white at the front edge of the photo for me, with all the lighting on the top edge of the subjects. I might try a lower height lighting source.
