Shot in my garage after work, with a piece of wood I picked up out of one of the lots where they're building new houses. I took just a small, discarded piece near the curb, hoping that any self-respecting builder would realize I wasn't "stealing lumber". In broad daylight, too. I was not arrested, nor detained, nor even questioned, which is good.

And it was over 100 degrees in my garage. Wonder if dripping sweat on the camera is good for it?

Post: Crop and resize, NI (trial version), hue/sat (desat a bit), smart sharpen, color balance (midtones -12, 1, 18), curves, more of that trial NI stuff, brightness and contrast, resize to DPC size, USM a bit more, save.

Shot with the Rebel because I don't have a remote for the 30D yet and had the puppy on a tripod so I could operate the drill. Drill was running, but this was one of the fast shutter speed ones so you really can't tell. Didn't really look all that great with the slower shutter speed.

Not expecting ribbons - of any color. :-)

This photo is all about DoF...and this is one of the best I've seen lately. I love the blur in the foreground to go with the short DoF in back. Well done.

Trading post...
Excellent DOF! Colors are nice. If you're doing stock, this would work well there too. For the challenge I think the score should have been much higher. You definitely nailed the bits part (pun intended).

Well, I love this one for this challenge. I missed this one in voting. It's one of the ones that are very well done, appealing and interesting to look at. I think deserving of a much higher score than 5.5

Deb, well done you perfected the DOF to focus exactly where it was needed, great idea and perfect follow-through

More drill bits. (I know it's not fair. But it's a subjective response.)

You've used DOF to your advantage. I'd have put the upright bit in sharp focus rather than just in front of the bit. The horizontal bits have some nice leading lines.

I like compozition, colors and focus but because there are (sorry) plenty of drills in chalenge it lacks originality. But image apart quite nice.

Nice idea, though literal. Fairly good focus on the subject. 7.

Good interpretation, I particularily like the shallow Depth Of Field

Clever. DOF may be a bit too tight IMHO.
